Working Towards Zero Waste
We proudly support sustainability by encouraging mindful choices and small steps that make a big impact. Here are a few active initiatives.
Reduction of Single Use Plastic
We reduce single-use plastics in our dining hall by providing reusable tableware whenever possible, and we continue to explore sustainable solutions
Sustainable Paper Products
We made a meaningful step toward sustainability by replacing Styrofoam cups with paper alternatives across campus dining locations.
Proactive Prevention
We use tracking and forecasting tools to proactively identify food waste trends in order to alter our preparation accordingly.

Sip Smarter
Skip the single-use plastic and stay hydrated the eco-friendly way! Monarch Dining supports sustainability by offering water refill stations in Broderick Dining Commons and in Webb Student Center.
Green Cleaning
Monarch Dining sources chemicals through EcoLab, which prioritizes product chemical safety and sustainability.
Food Donations
Monarch Dining partners with the Monarch Pantry and Norfolk City Public Schools to provide food for families and children experiencing food insecurity.
